Jersey Girl Brewing opened its doors April of 2016 in the rapidly evolving, exciting NJ Craft Beer Market. Since then we have brewed an extensive range of beer styles including IPAs, lagers, stouts, sours, and barrel-aged beers. We have established several flag ship beers distributed in and out of NJ. Our Sample Room is a fixture in the community with an inviting atmosphere and exciting private events space with a separate 8,500 square foot beer garden. Brew system is 30bbl x 4 vessel system, 4 x 60bbl Fermentation Tanks, 3 x 30bbl Fermentation, 1 x 30bbl and 1 x 60bbl Brite Tanks. CODI 5 Head Counterpressure Canning line.
Primary Responsibilities:
The Head Brewer is responsible for leading the brewing team to produce top quality and consistent beer in the safest and most efficient manner possible while keeping accurate records in our online system for reporting are key for planning and communication. The Head Brewer will assist in building the Jersey Girl Brewing Company brand and keep the brand at the forefront of brewing innovation, excellence, and sustainability. The Head Brewer will teach, train, and grow the brewing team to be well-rounded, top brewers in the industry.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Head Brewer is responsible for all facets of the brewing process from ordering raw materials to the final pour on tap.
Core Responsibilities:
· Brewing preparations (milling, cleaning, water treatment)
· Recipe development Brewing beers and other beverages
· Overseeing cellaring tasks such as gravity readings and transfers
· CIP operations on both hot and cold side
· General tasks as required such as inventory counts, warehouse cleaning, and deliveries
· Supervising and giving direction to brew hands
Decision Making/ Responsibilities:
Many of the major quality decisions are done at a team level but the brewer has the authority to make decision for his department in keeping with company goals and objectives within agreed upon conditions. Many decision will be driven by the head brewer 3 month plan for brewing, canning, and kegging with the owner.
Quality Finished Beer Production and Process Improvement:
Quality Finished Beer Production is ultimately the most important part of the Head Brewer’s job. Beer produced by Jersey Girl Brewing Company must be consistent, true to style and of the highest quality. The Head Brewer monitors every function of the Brewing Department and alerts management of any foreseen issues in the process.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities - The Head Brewer must possess:
Management skills: This position requires good time management, creativity, communication, troubleshooting, teamwork, project management and people skills.
· Planning and scheduling of workforce and production to meet packaging, shipping, and new product launch objectives.
· Troubleshooting, process improvement, and creative recipe development will be a constant demand.
· Communication skills (Interpersonal, teamwork, presentation, positive attitude)
· Tracking tax amounts of both state and federal excise taxes.
· Reporting to management through reports as needed to understand brewing data point, recipe, cost, labor, inventory, etc.
· Be a point of contact for our brewery material suppliers, and mediate any quality and supply issues.
